Brighton beach will have a taste of Brazil this July when the South American sport of footvolley comes to town. The Barefoot Open – UK Footvolley Championships are returning to Brighton for the fifth year running.
Originating from Copacabana beach, Rio de Janeiro, footvolley is a dynamic sport which combines beach volleyball and football. Players can use their head, shoulders, chest, legs and feet to pass the ball between teammates and over the net.
The event, on Saturday 9th July, will see some of the top international teams battle it out on the sand at the UK’s only permanent beach sports complex Nivea Sun Yellowave.
“Footvolley is a really exciting sport, the players are incredibly skilful and every game is action packed. Even top Brazilian football players such as Ronaldo and Edinho have played the sport to help refine their skills on the pitch.” says Katie Mintram, Director of Yellowave.
The event will run from 11am – 6pm and spectators can watch on deckchair seating for free. As well as the matches there will also be free wine tasting with Barefoot wine, free foot massage, a ‘keepy uppy’ competition and a chance to have a go at footvolley.
As this event is completely fun you might see one or two of Sea Spray’s staff enjoying the unique beach flair in Brighton! Have fun!
