Brighton is set to gain an unfettered view of the Olympics this summer as continuous coverage of the games will be broadcast on a giant outdoor screen on the seafront from 27 July to 12 August 2012.
Murray Media – the company that helped to bring Brighton’s newest seafront landmark, the Wheel, to fruition – is behind the bid to bring the largest, free, outdoor cinema on the south coast to the city. A public area, holding up to 3,500 people, will offer a grandstand view of the games with the atmosphere of a live crowd. There will also be a fully licensed refreshment area.
The 100 square ft LED screen will be situated on the lower promenade next to the West Pier. Coverage of the Olympics’ main sporting events will be shown during the day and a selection of blockbuster movies, comedy and music events will be screened during the evening.
The attraction will provide a convivial setting for residents to watch this significant event together as well as bringing additional visitors to the seafront and boosting trade in the area.
