In 1963, the Secretary of State for war, John ‘Jack’ Profumo, was forced to resign after it was established that he had lied to the House about the nature of his relationship with a young showgirl Christine Keeler. She was also involved with a Russian spy during her affair with the Secretary of State. The ensuing scandal was in part responsible for the resignation of the Prime Minister Harold MacMillan and the suicide of the man who introduced Keeler to Profumo, Stephen Ward.
Based on the 2001 biography, The Truth At Last, written by Christine Keeler with Douglas Thompson, this play reveals the sensational inside story of the infamous Profumo affair: the biggest political sex scandal to rock the British nation in the 20th century.
