The Brighton Breeze is the annual run for all Volkwagen camper van enthusiasts. It is organised by the Split Screen Van Club which was founded in 1983 dedicated to the preservation, love, care and enjoyment of the pre-1967 VW van.
The Brighton Breeze is a very successful event, where a great many VW camper vans can be observed. In fact, Madeira Drive fills up with camper vans. While the organisers are dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of the Split Screen camper van variety, just about any VW camper van (Westphalia, T5, even California, etc.) can take part in the Brighton Breeze. While camper vans predominate, there is also a selection of other VW machines, such as beetle cars, a caravan, and even a German post office van has been seen. Virtually the whole history of the VW camper van is there to be explored.
The VW camper van is the archetypal “festival van”.
Of course, as camper van enthusiasts, many entrants in the run want somewhere to camp, and facilities are available at both ends. Camping places at Brighton racecourse sell out quickly. (Though Brighton is crammed packed with hotels.)
The Brighton Breeze is an autumn event, but Madeira Drive is a south-facing suntrap, and if you do get some sunshine the weather can be very pleasant.
Welcome to Brighton and Welcome to sea spray!
